The photo was taken sometime between 1900 and 1904 by Albert Hatherly Maynard. Maynard’s family had a long history of photography and many of his parents’ photographs were eventually sold to the Royal BC Museum.

Richard and Hannah Maynard’s works included, in part, ethnographic photographs documenting the territorial lands, resources, and culture of Coach Salish and Interior Salish First Nations communities.
